Recover From Stuttering - Renew and Refocus

Newsletter 62: April 2015

Hope is a gift of Easter. Renew your hope for achieving and maintaining speech fluency, then be proactive to make it happen. Refocus on your fluency management system with commitment and clear intent.

Do you feel that you have put in the effort with your fluency management? Have you had periods of success with your fluency? Do you know the sensation of FEELING FLUENT? Do people understand how important the management of your fluency is to you?

If you can answer yes to all these questions, then you are a candidate for ongoing fluency into your future. It shows that you believe in technique, that you have put yourself out there and have felt the confidence that FEELING FLUENT gives a recovering stutterer.

Because life is sometimes stressful and often points you away from your predetermined goals and priorities, your fluency management can suffer. Your focus can wane for a time even though you have all the tools to maintain fluent speech. This can lead to negative self-talk and establish a temporary lack of confidence. You may find avoidance popping up its ugly head.

How can you get back on track?

'Resurrection is a leap into a whole new way of thinking.' - Deepak Chopra

Stay positive in regard to your fluency, technique and mindset. Maintaining positive self-talk is an effective way to set goals and ensure that you stick to them. Remind yourself what goals are important to you, - e.g. to achieve ongoing fluency management - and then plan the logistics of how you are going to attain each goal. When self-doubt starts kicking in, respond with thoughts that affirm your success without surrendering to the negative pressure. Believe in yourself! Remember all the work you have already put in and how well it has worked for you in the past. Establish positive patterns in your life. If something works for you and steers you towards your goal of maintaining fluency, then keep doing it.
